Snow lovers converge upon the region to enjoy nearby alpine resorts such as Cardrona Alpine Resort, Treble Cone Ski Area, Snow Farm which specialises in cross country skiing and the Snow Park. The huge variety of terrain is extended by heliskiing to find the pristine powder snow amidst the magnificent backdrop of the surrounding Southern Alps and Lake Wanaka.
The Queenstown area provides two other alpine resorts, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, within an hour's drive of Wanaka.
September's warmer temperatures provide those glorious 'spring corn' snow conditions that are so easy and pleasurable to ski and snowboard on.
The last two weeks of July and all of September are quieter times. |
